Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone can give me any general advice about sailing in Croatia. Never been there and I think it’s about time I had a go, cheers!!!

Since I’ve spent several holidays sailing in the Adriatic, I can offer a few advices and hope they’re useful to you. First of all, you must know that Adriatic can be pretty stormy. So you should definitely use maps and all the recent guides that you can find. And listen to the locals who can offer some useful suggestions and often predict weather changes.
A good advice is also to watch the sunset: if the sun sets into clouds, the next day will not be so nice. Remember to listen to the forecasts (in English) but you don't have to necessarily trust the "safe" ports. The winds can be quite strong but in the summer the weather is mostly nice with some great sailing winds from the NE.
If on a windy day you’re anchored in some sheltered inlet, watch for thunder – it’s always the sign that the winds will start from the opposite direction. The change happens in seconds so you have only minutes to move on.
And last but not least: use your common sense and you’ll do just fine!
