Packing for your charter vacation can be a great fun or a terrible hassle – the important thing is to know what to pack and what definitely should be left at home! Check our guide with tips and advices and travel with joy!!!
Some general tips1. The first and most important rule is – travel light! In case you over pack, the very start of your journey with heavy luggage could become really unpleasant, not to mention that the space aboard is limited so there may not be enough space for all your stuff. So remember that less is better, especially since you’re going to spend your vacations sunbathing on warm Mediterranean, meaning that you will need far less things than you can imagine.
2. If possible pack your things in soft-sided bags, especially if chartering a rather small sailing boat. Again, you will have limited space aboard which excludes hard suitcases so duffle-type bags, which can be easily stored, are a great solution. If weight is a problem choose a duffle-bag with rollers.
3. A wise travelers always bring along a carry-on with valuables and some essentials like toiletries, change of clothes, bathing suit and some medications – just in case your luggage gets lost and you reach the charter yacht without it. It is not likely but it’s better to be prepared and with a carry-on the unnecessary worry and delay will be avoided and you will be able to carry on with your vacation even if something unpredictable happens!
4. Before you start your trip check with your charter agency exactly what items will be provided on the yacht. There is no need bringing bedding, sheets or towels since most bareboat companies provide it, while motor yachts will certainly have all this onboard. Also, snorkeling gear are usually provided and sometimes even the fishing gear. So you should definitely first check if everything you wish to have during your stay will be provided, and bring only the things you really can’t be without for 7 days.
5. And last but not least – if you have a favorite pillow you may want to bring it with you. A good night sleep guarantees more fun during the day!

However, remember that you will not need toms of clothes and that casual wearing is much more fun and relaxing, not to mention less heavy to pack. Since the weather is usually sunny you will spend most of the vacation in bathing suits, so bring even a few of them. Besides t-shirts, tops, light pants or skirts, it’s always advisable to pack some long-sleeved sweats or a light windbreaker and a pair of lightweight longer trousers as the evening breeze can sometimes be chilly. You will spend most time on board barefoot, but it’s good to pack some flip-flops and a rubber soled sandals or “reef runners” for venturing ashore. Also, a hat and good sunglasses will come handy when chartering a yacht on the Adriatic.
Personal careSunscreens with at least 15SPF are a must. The creamy ones are definitely preferred as the oil-based ones are slippery, staining and can even intensify the strong sun. It’s good to have also aloe or something similar for soothing sunburn pain as well as a good insect repellent, just in case. Of course, bring your standard personal care products as well as some basic medications and a small first-aid kit as the ones provided on bare boat yachts sometimes supply the very basic. If you think somebody from in your party could be prone to seasickness, make sure you bring some seasickness remedies and remember – soda crackers help.
EntertainmentIf you wish to have some of your favorite CD’s on board, bring them with you. But don’t forget to first check with your charter agent weather your sailing yacht is equipped with CD player. If you’re chartering a crewed yacht, you can be almost sure not only that you will have a CD player onboard, but also a large collection of popular CD’s and DVD’s. Also, don’t forget that book you wanted to read for moths but never had the time – the yacht sun deck is just perfect for lazy afternoons spent reading. And finally – don’t forget the battery charger and camera for catching these memorable days spent cruising between the stunning Croatian islands.
