Hi. I’m thinking about chartering a yacht somewhere in the Med - preferably Croatia or Greece. I would like some help finding the right boat and information about places to visit. I heard there are some fantastic caves on the coast which you can swim into, for example. Anyone have any experience on sailing in that area?

Obviously first you have to decide where to go and how many you will be -than you can start looking for a boat!
Croatia is amazing, but the Cyclades Islands in Greece are wonderful too! The way I see it is: Croatia is a little more unspoiled comparing to Greece -which is more popular as a tourist destination.
What I liked is that the Cyclades are so different, one island is quiet and peaceful, and the next one is all about party and nightlife -so if you're there for one week you get to experience all the different activities!
But what it comes down to is: just decide where to go this time, and go the next time go to the other ;-) -there is no other way, as both are definitely worth seeing!

I always go to the Cyclades in September. I've nerver been anywhere else yet so I can't compare. But what I can say is that the underworld there is unbelievable, so if you decide to go there do not forget to bring your snorkel & mask…

hi ericsteal,
we have been to croatia in 2007 and are planning to go back in a couple of years, since we had so much fun there. we hired a sailing boot with skipper, Ivo was his name, who was excellent - very professional and knowledgeable, yet friendly. he took us to a number of hidden bays on different islands, where we enjoyed swimming and diving in a crystal clear sea.
the gut thing was also that he knew all the good small, family-run restaurants on almost uninhabited islands, where we would moor on private docks, practically on a terrace of the rustic konoba, and have a divine homemade food (mostly fresh fish and sea food caught by the owner’s son) served by the kind owner and his family. it was sensationell!!
I don’t know if you plan to hire a skipper, but we would have never experienced croatia in this way without Ivo. so my advice is to think about it, or at least contact a good local charter agency and ask advice from their stuff to recommend all the good places to moor (and eat!) :-D
good luck!

ericsteal, since you mentioned caves - if you would like to see something really extraordinary, visit Blue Cave (on the island of Bisevo, near Vis).
The cave is a natural phenomenon, it has entrances both below and above sea level and displays indescribable silvery-azure colors. I would have never believed it was really so blue had I not seen it myself.
I think that there are several movies on Youtube about it, try to look it up… maybe this will help you decide where to go next summer.

I’ve been to both countries and I would definitely choose Croatia over Greece.
Croatia has a good tourist offer while maintaining an authentic rustic charm and there are many stunning sites that are off the beaten track, which I loved. Greece is also lovely, but many of the Greek islands are quite touristy, perhaps even too much so.
But both are lovely countries and have a lot to offer and in both the climate is wonderful and the people are friendly.
