There are 4 couples (total 8) planning to charter next summer (2011). As we budget for our provisionms for the trip - i need some advice on generally how much should we budget for.
Our plan is the following
2 weeks in July
Leave Dubrovnik and finish at Split
Breakfast and Lunch on boat everyday
Dinnner on shore everyday.
This is not a big partying group. Pretty reasonable and average appetites. Not big alcohol drinker either - but we enjoy our bee and wine.
So how much should i plan on (even a range is fine) per person per day for the breakfast/lunch/snacks and then how much does a reasonably good quality local dinner cost per person per day.
Thnaks for your help!

Hi Tom,
Thank you for contacting us.
I must say your question was a bit challenging for me, but I’ll do my best to help you.
Regarding the daily budget per person while on charter holiday, it’s really hard to give an estimate because it depends a lot on eating habits of your party - quantity and type of food you are used to eat for breakfast or lunch. What I can say is that most of the orders we receive range between 200 and 400 EUR per week, but we can’t be sure for how many people are these since it’s not specified in booking orders. I think a good thing would be to order the basic provisions you’ll need during your charter and then to buy fresh fruit and vegetables daily on small local markets in towns you will be visiting along the way. But keep in mind that the prices onshore are cheaper than the prices on the islands where the groceries are usually more expensive, so it would definitely be advisable to buy everything that you need and that can last on board before setting the sails towards the islands. Also, I advise you to briefly compare a few prices from our web shop to the prices you pay for the same items at home – this way you’ll have an idea of what to expect.
Generally speaking, the food prices in Croatia are in range of other European countries if you buy in supermarkets or lower, but eating out is certainly cheaper than in Europe. Most of the tourists find the prices in Croatia reasonable and affordable.
Of course, there are some places which are not considered cheap, such as Dubrovnik or Hvar. But outside the main towns Croatia can be very inexpensive. I think wherever you decide to go, you can make it pretty cheap if you want to. I would say an average meal in a local tavern costs between 10 -15 EUR. But you can keep the costs down and eat even for less, since there are plenty of restaurants with good pizza and pasta offer where you can get a meal for 7-8 EUR, drink included. Or you can try ćevapi, burek or pizza slices in local fast foods for around 2-3 EUR, and they’re really tasty. The Croatian specialties are lobsters and seafood and seafood restaurants are definitely more expensive than regular ones, but if you want to try some original Croatian recipes you should definitely dine at least one evening in a traditional tavern. In this case I advise you to find one on the islands, rather than going to some of the prime location restaurants in Dubrovnik where you would pay through your nose.
I hope that at the end of your vacation you will agree with most of the foreign tourists: the most expensive thing is getting to Croatia, after this it’s all pure hedonism! ;-)
