A couple of us plan to charter a sailing yacht from Dubrovnik late next summer. Is it possible? What route would you suggest us to take? We’re chartering without skipper. Is September a good time to be on the Croatian coast?
Thanks!

Hi Megan!

Dubrovnik is a famous yacht charter destination. This city is magnificent itself and moreover it is a sort of a gateway to the stunning Adriatic coast of Croatia which boasts over 1000 islands and islets as well as one of the Mediterranean’s most enchanting cruising sceneries.
Dubrovnik is, besides Zagreb, the leading airport terminal in Croatia, so flying in shouldn’t be a problem. As to the yacht charter offer, all the major Croatian yacht charter companies have their offices in the Dubrovnik ACI marina which is located close to the city center. So it would be best to contact some of them, ask for an offer and compare prices.
Regarding suggested routes, here’s one that might be interesting:

Dubrovnik (check in) – Sipan
Sipan – Mljet (Polace)
Mljet (Polace) – Lastovo (Zaklopatica)
Lastovo (Zaklopatica) – Korcula (Korcula city)
Korcula – Mljet (Sobra)
Mljet (Sobra) – Kobas (Peljesac)
Kobas (Peljesac) – Dubrovnik (check out)

Make sure to stay a few days extra in Dubrovnik after the charter - it's an incredible city so don't miss out!

couldn't agree more!

Dubrovnik is amazing, definitely include it in your trip, and if you can afford -stay a few days extra!
make sure you visit the small towns down the coast: Konawle area and the like: you must try the local food and wine, the figs, the "prikle" and "hrostule".

they are made of dough similar to donuts, with some alcohol in it, they are fried in oil and dipped in icing sugar, the prikle are soft, while the hrostule are crunchy!
quite a delicacy!

just like "rozata": similar to creme brulee!

I'm traveling with some friends in late August and we would like to tour the islands in either a sail or motor boat.
We're looking at a 3-5 day trip departing from Dubrovnik.
We've been researching and haven't had much luck yet. Is this possible?
Do you know any companies out there that do this? Or the only way is to charter our own boat? Looking forward to some suggestions. Thanks!

Hi wildberry,
I think it might be difficult for you to find a boat trip around the coast for 3 to 5 days. There is greater chance in doing this if you charter your own boat, but the vast majority of the boats only charter out for 7 days. July and August are really popular and most of the yachts are booked months in advance. Even September is becoming more popular but you could try to contact some of the agencies to see if they have anything available for a short term charter in September. If they do, it could be possible to book such a trip, but probably only at the last minute.
